TEFL Course Entry Requirements

Applicants are welcome from any background, with or without any prior teaching experience. One should have a strong passion to teach, and an ability to demonstrate good English language skills.

The entry requirements are:

  • Age: Minimum of 18 years old on the first day of the course.
  • Educational: Minimal qualification for entry into Higher (Tertiary) Education in the UK (or home country) or equivalent. Proof of relevant qualification should be provided at the interview.
  • English Level: Demonstrate a high level of competence in reading, writing, aural and oral skills in English as appropriate to a teacher of the language and sufficient to equip them for the training process.
  • Non-native English speakers are welcome to apply, as long as they are able to demonstrate competence in English.

Apart from these, some of the other qualities that a trainee teacher should possess are:

Be willing to learn:

Demonstrate an ability to learn how to teach communicatively, showing relevant features of English and ensuring understanding.

Be a team player:

Willingness to work cooperatively as a member of the training group, supporting colleagues and respond constructively to feedback on personal performance.

Ability to evaluate yourself:

Willing to reflect on your own strengths and weaknesses, as well as analyse other peers, and a desire to improve.

Ability to take feedback positively:

Able to respond constructively to feedback and suggestions, implementing it in practice and show willingness to work as a team.

Be committed:

Willing to put in the hard work and dedication required to improve and develop with understanding and practice.

All applicants need to show evidence of good speaking and writing skills in English, whether English is their first language or not.

Visa and Passport Information for International TEFL Trainees

If you are planning to take our TEFL course in Japan and you are from another country, here is what you need to know:

  • You must have a valid passport with at least six months of validity remaining from your arrival date in Japan.
  • Citizens from the UK, US, Canada, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand are typically granted a Landing Permission upon arrival at Japanese airports, allowing entry without a pre-arranged visa.

However, visa regulations can change, and requirements may differ based on your nationality. To ensure a smooth entry into Japan, we recommend checking with your local Japanese consulate or embassy for the most up-to-date travel guidelines.
